Black Aeonium, Black rose

Black Aeonium (Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop') is a succulent plant native to the Canary Islands. The fleshy, burgandy-black leaves grow to form rosettes at the tips of the stems, which can reach from 3 to 4 feet tall. Also known as Black Rose, Purple Crest Aeonium, and Black Tree Aeonium, it grows best in full sun and and dry to medium soil, forming clumps that spread up to 3 feet wide and blooming in summer with yellow, star-shaped flowers. Black Aeonium can tolerate both drought and deer as well as seacoast exposure.
